ERCOLANO RUINS
The archaeological area of Herculaneum has been included, since 1997, together with the excavations of Pompeii and the villas of Oplontis, in the list of world heritage sites drawn up by UNESCO. Herculaneum, therefore, represents a component of the "serial" UNESCO site, "Archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata", made up of monuments and archaeological areas owned by the Italian State managed directly by the Ministry for Heritage and Cultural Activities through a peripheral body (UNESCO Office Site 829, near Pompeii).
VESUVIO
The Vesuvius National Park was officially founded on 5 June 1995 to conserve the species animals and vegetables, plant and forest associations, geological singularities, paleontological formations, biological communities, biotopes, scenic and panoramic values, natural processes, hydraulic and hydrogeological balances and ecological balances of the Vesuvian territory.
Pompeii (in Latin: Pompeii) is aancient city, corresponding to the current Pompeii, whose history originates from 9th century BC to end in 79, when, following theeruption of Vesuvius, is covered under a blanket of ashes and lapilli about six meters high. His rediscovery and related excavations, begun in 1748, brought to light an archaeological site which in 1997 became part of the list of heritage of humanity of theUNESCO, and which is the second most visited Italian monument after museum system of Colosseum, Roman forum and Palatine[1].
